Winless in four matches—having recorded three draws and one defeat—Nigeria currently sits fifth in Group C, making this encounter a crucial opportunity to turn their campaign around.

The experienced defender highlighted the team’s intensity in training and praised head coach Chelle for bringing tactical clarity, providing clear instructions, and equipping the squad with valuable insights as they prepare for Friday’s showdown.

Speaking to Super Eagles TV, Troost-Ekong expressed confidence in the squad’s preparation and the clarity provided by their new head coach.

“We’re fired up. Of course, we know we have a big job ahead. It comes with pressure, but I keep saying to everyone that this pressure is a privilege, so all the boys are feeling that,” he said.

He also shed light on Chelle’s approach, praising the coach’s ability to deliver clear tactical instructions.

“We are very happy to work with the new coach. He’s given us a lot of new instructions, but he’s been very clear about what he expects from us. It’s just about making sure we understand and execute that on Friday.”

Beyond the game plan, Troost-Ekong revealed that Chelle has already provided the squad with extensive information, likely including analysis and opposition scouting insights, to help them prepare for the clash.

“He’s given us a lot of information already, and we look forward to the game. These are the key moments when you have to stand up, but none of us is afraid of that.”
