Super Eagles: Venezia step up Akor Adams’ pursuit – two key reasons behind interest

Super Eagles forward Akor Adams could be on the verge of joining newly promoted Serie A side Venezia this summer with negotiations gathering momentum, Afrik-Foot reports.

The Nigerian striker has attracted significant transfer interest following his impressive performances for Sevilla last season. The Spanish club are open to selling him as they look to ease their financial difficulties, making a summer departure increasingly likely.

Adams scored 10 La Liga goals after overcoming a difficult start to life at Sevilla. He played a crucial role in the club’s successful battle against relegation, finishing as their leading league scorer and delivering several important goals that helped secure their top-flight status.

French club Olympique Marseille had also shown interest in signing the Super Eagles striker earlier in the transfer window. However, their financial difficulties may limit their chances, leaving Venezia in a strong position to complete the deal.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, via Marca, Venezia have taken a bold step towards signing Adams after reaching an agreement on personal terms with the Super Eagles forward.

The Italian club previously saw a €10 million bid rejected by Sevilla but are expected to return with an improved offer as they intensify efforts to complete the transfer and there are several reasons that has contributed to their interest.

Super Eagles star’s goalscoring pedigree

One of Adams’ biggest strengths is his ability to score goals at the highest level. The 26-year-old has demonstrated his quality in both France and Spain, proving he can deliver consistently despite facing stiff competition. 

Although he endured a difficult start after arriving at Sevilla, the Super Eagles forward gradually adapted to the demands of La Liga and established himself as the club’s main attacking threat.

He finished last season as Sevilla’s top league scorer with 10 goals, carrying much of the team’s attacking responsibility during their fight against relegation.

As a newly promoted side to the top flight, Venezia know they will need reliable goals if they are to survive in Serie A. Bringing in a striker with Adams’ experience and finishing ability would strengthen their attack and improve their chances of remaining in the top flight.

Adams’ playing style perfectly suits Venezia

Another major reason behind Venezia’s interest is Adams’ versatility and playing style, which appears well suited to the club’s pattern of play.

The Super Eagles forward is capable of leading the line on his own, using his physical strength, pace and excellent hold-up play to bring teammates into attacking moves. His ability to retain possession and occupy defenders makes him an ideal focal point in attack.

He is equally comfortable playing in a two-man strike partnership, just like he does effectively for Nigeria alongside Victor Osimhen, which shows Adams’ ability to thrive in different tactical setups.

However, Venezia must still reach an agreement with Sevilla over a transfer fee before the move can be completed. 

Although Adams previously expressed his desire to remain at the Spanish club, the opportunity to take on a new challenge in Italy could persuade him to make the switch this summer.
