‘Sack him in the morning’ – Super Eagles fans unimpressed with Finidi’s selection choices

Things didn't go swimmingly for Nigeria's Super Eagles on Friday night, as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw with South Africa in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying game.

Finidi George's troops had drawn their first two group games, and were in the hunt for their first win of the World Cup qualifiers. However, Bafana Bafana were the ones who drew first blood, thanks to Themba Zwane.

Although Fisayo Dele-Bashiru put the Super Eagles back on level terms early in the second half, the game ultimately ended in a stalemate.

With that in mind, Nigerians did not hesitate to share their opinions on X (formerly Twitter).

Some fans were not particularly pleased with Victor Boniface’s absence. The 23-year-old is coming off the best season in his career, as his 29 goal involvements helped Bayer Leverkusen win the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal. In spite of this, Boniface did not make an appearance on Friday night.

Interestingly, there are others who believe that the Super Eagles' struggles aren't because of the coach, but because the players aren't good enough.

The Super Eagles will make the trip to Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium on Monday, where they'll square off against Benin Republic. As it stands, Finidi's troops are now fifth in Group C, two points behind group leaders Lesotho.
