Super Eagles and Nice striker Terem Moffi has suffered a severe knee injury that will keep him out of action until the new year.
The Nigerian international tore his cruciate ligaments during a training session in Austria, as reported by several French media outlets.
The 24-year-old forward will undergo surgery and is expected to miss several months of competition. The initial estimate for his return to the field is set for February 2025, approximately six months from now.
Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi out until 2025
This injury comes at an unfortunate time for Moffi, who had been attracting interest from several clubs due to his impressive performances for Nice.
He was gearing up for the start of the Ligue 1 season, hoping to build on his success from the previous campaign.
Moffi transferred to Nice from Lorient during the winter transfer window in January 2023 for a substantial fee of 25 million euros, with an additional five million euros in potential bonuses.
Since joining Nice, he has made a significant impact, scoring 11 goals and providing 2 assists in 30 Ligue 1 appearances last season.
In total, Moffi has netted 20 goals and contributed five assists in 52 games across all competitions for the club
Unfortunately, Moffi's injury also means he will miss Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September. His absence will be felt by the national team, as he had been a key player in their recent campaigns.
