Tolu Arokodare to Ajax: Breakdown of deal – Salary, transfer fee, & one vital clause

Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare is set to complete a transfer from Wolves to former Dutch champions Ajax, Afrik-Foot reports.

​The big Nigerian marksman joined Wolves from Genk in a deal worth €26 million last summer, but it turned out to be disappointing for all parties involved.

​Arokodare failed to secure consistent game time amid the instability at the club, which eventually got relegated at the end of the season. Despite this, he managed six goals and two assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.

​Heading into the summer, it was already established that the 25-year-old would leave England. He was left out of the team’s pre-season plans and recently caused a stir when he allegedly disrupted his teammates’ training session.

​In recent weeks, he has been linked with Besiktas, Galatasaray, Trabzonspor, Fiorentina, and several other clubs.

​However, football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Arokodare is headed to Ajax.

​The move comes as a surprise, as Ajax only recently entered the race, but they have quickly agreed on terms to wrap the deal up.

​Breakdown of Tolu Arokodare’s Transfer to Ajax

​Tolu Arokodare is joining Ajax on a season-long loan. However, there is also a buy-option of €22 million at the end of next season.

​This is not a mandatory option. This means that Ajax are under no obligation to pay the fee, and can choose to return him to Wolves afterwards.

​De Godenzonen will pay Wolves €1.17 million for the transfer, and they will cover Arokodare’s yearly salary of €4.56 million.

​The Amsterdam-based club will also pay Wolves a bonus depending on which of the European competitions they qualify for next season.

​Arokodare will be expected to play a key role for Ajax next season, as they look to displace PSV Eindhoven and reclaim their Eredivisie crown. They finished fifth last season, which is an anomaly for a club of their stature. This will see the club play in the UEFA Conference League next season.

​They see the Super Eagles striker as a replacement for Wout Weghorst, who left the club at the end of last season. He will be looking to shine in Amsterdam and help them claim their first title since 2022.
