Transfer news: Why Ola Aina may leave Nottingham Forest soon

Super Eagles defender Ola Aina could be on his way out of Nottingham Forest this summer, Afrik-Foot reports.

The 29-year-old has been with the Tricky Trees since 2023, following his arrival on a free transfer from Serie A club Torino.

At Forest, Aina has evolved into a formidable player, now widely considered one of the top left-backs in the English top flight.

His impressive performances even saw him heavily linked with a move to former Premier League champions Manchester City last summer, though he ultimately opted to sign a contract extension at the City Ground.

However, Aina struggled with persistent injuries last season, which restricted him to just 28 appearances across all competitions.

Looking ahead to the new campaign, Aina had already promised the club’s fans that they would finish in the Premier League’s top four. Yet, it remains uncertain whether he will remain at the club to help his teammates achieve that goal.

Why Ola Aina Might Leave Nottingham Forest

Ola Aina’s time at Nottingham Forest has been marked by frequent managerial changes. He has worked under Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche, Vitor Pereira, and now Oliver Glasner.

While the Super Eagles star remained a regular under previous coaches, his situation may change under Glasner’s leadership.

In the past two weeks, Nottingham Forest have been linked with two different right wing-backs — Aina’s position.

The club recently contacted Fiorentina regarding a potential move for Dodô and had a bid for Givairo Read rejected.

The fact that the club is pursuing two right-backs despite already having Ola Aina and Nicolo Savona on their books has raised eyebrows, particularly as the team will not be competing in Europe this season.

These targets are specifically right wing-backs, which aligns with Glasner’s tactical philosophy. During his time at Crystal Palace, the Austrian tactician usually played with two attacking full-backs who were expected to support the attack while remaining defensively solid.

Although Aina is a capable defender, he may struggle to adapt to the specific demands of Glasner’s system, and that explains the club’s search for players who fit the mold.

If Aina finds himself relegated to a bench role — a prospect he would likely find unappealing — it could prompt him to start exploring other options in the transfer market.

In the meantime, while he has yet to be strongly linked with other clubs, the situation could change rapidly as the summer transfer window progresses.
