Transfer news: 4 Saudi Arabian clubs Wilfred Ndidi could join from Besiktas

Wilfred Ndidi has become a central figure in this summer’s transfer news, with reports indicating he is set to leave Besiktas.

However, he was part of a disappointing campaign that saw the club finish fourth, 17 points behind league champions Galatasaray. Following these results, the club dismissed coach Sergen Yalcin and recently appointed Vincenzo Italiano.

Ndidi is likely to be among the casualties, as Besiktas aim to offload him to sign a defensive midfielder who better suits Italiano’s tactical requirements.

The Nigerian star has been heavily linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, but the specific clubs vying for his signature have yet to be confirmed. In this article, Afrik-Foot highlights four likely destinations for the Super Eagles midfielder.

Reigning Saudi champions Al Nassr are expected to enter the market for a defensive midfielder, and Wilfred Ndidi could be their primary target.

With their current starter, Marcelo Brozovic, potentially leaving as his contract nears its end, the club is scouting replacements for the 33-year-old.

Ndidi would be an astute addition, offering top-flight experience and a proven ability to break up play and dictate the tempo of the game.

Asides from the prestige of joining the league’s top sides, a move to Al Nassr would allow Ndidi to share the pitch with global stars like Joao Felix, Sadio Mane, and Cristiano Ronaldo.

2. Al Ahli

Al Ahli have been strongly linked with Paul Onuachu, but he may not be the only Nigerian player on their radar.

Since joining from Liverpool, Brazilian midfielder Fabinho has had a productive stint in Saudi Arabia, including a league and cup double two seasons ago.

However, last season was particularly poor, with the team finishing fifth—31 points adrift of champions Al Nassr.

Their poor finish suggests a major rebuild is quite close. With Fabinho’s contract set to expire and no extension confirmed, he could be on his way out.
