Wilfred Ndidi: Why Manchester United’s attempt to sign Super Eagles captain will fail

Published on by

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has been linked with a transfer away from Süper Lig side Beşiktaş this summer, Afrik-Foot reports.

The club’s decision to appoint Vincenzo Italiano as coach has put Ndidi’s future in doubt, with several reports from Turkey indicating that the Nigerian defensive midfielder is nearing an exit.

Marc Casadó has been touted as a potential replacement, as he fits the mold of the defensive midfielder that coach Italiano desires.

He does not have the physical dominance that Ndidi has, but he offers positional discipline and a superior passing range, among other qualities.

Meanwhile, Ndidi has been linked with several clubs since it is believed that he could leave this summer.

Manchester United has been linked with the Super Eagles star, but nothing concrete has emerged yet. The Saudi Pro League has also been in the mix, but similarly, no substantial developments have occurred.

Meanwhile, while these rumors regarding Ndidi have circulated, neither the player nor the club has suggested that they will part ways this summer.

Why Suitors Will Struggle to Sign Wilfred Ndidi

Wilfred Ndidi still has two years on his contract, and it appears that he might not be leaving Beşiktaş this summer after all.

Earlier on Saturday, the president of the club, Serdal Adalı, noted that they would not sell any of their key players this summer.

”We have many players on hand from whom we can generate transfer revenue whenever we want,” Adalı said.

”Orkun, Agbadou, Murillo, Oh, Djaló, Cerny, Ndidi… All of our other players are also very valuable. They all have a market and suitors, but we have no intention of selling our players. None of them are at the end of their football careers.”

With these comments, it is difficult to see Ndidi leaving this summer. Moreover, he has already returned to training with the club ahead of pre-season and the Europa League qualifiers at the end of the month.

The fact that Ndidi is already training with the club suggests that he will still play a key role for the team this season.

However, there is a possibility that Beşiktaş could soften their stance if they receive an offer higher than the €8 million valuation of the 29-year-old midfielder.

Still, they would prefer to secure a replacement before they decide to negotiate with potential suitors.
