Borussia Dortmund midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka has completed his International switch of Allegiance to be able to represent the Austrian National team, Afrik Foot reports.

The 22-year-old’s preferred National team of representation has been in question since he rose through the ranks at Chelsea before making a switch to join Die Schwarzgelben permanently last summer.

Chukwuemeka was born in Vienna, Austria, to Nigerian parents, but grew up in England and has won 25 youth international caps with the Three Lions, firing them to UEFA European Under-19 Championship glory in 2022.

Ralf Rangnick welcomes Chukwuemeka to Austria

Rangnick replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjær at the Manchester United dugout on an interim basis back in 2021 and has been managing the Austria National team since the following year.

After failing to get a call-up to the England setup for two years, Chukwuemeka opted to represent Austria, putting an end to the possibility of playing for Nigeria.

The former Aston Villa man has now been called up to Austria’s squad for the March International break.

After welcoming Chukwuemeka and Paul Wanner to his setup, Rangnick was delighted their recruits chose them.

“We’re glad they chose us. Of course, during the course, you now have the opportunity to recommend yourself for the World Cup,” the 67-year-old said in quotes revealed by Sky Germany.

“Seen for the next ten to twelve years, I’m definitely convinced they will help us further,” the ex-Leipzig coach concluded.
