The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to return to action at the end of the month for the 2026 Unity Cup, Afrik-Foot reports.
The competition gained significant popularity among Nigerian fans last year after the Super Eagles defeated Jamaica and Ghana to clinch the trophy. This year, Eric Chelle and his squad will be looking to defend their title.
However, they will likely do so with a very much changed side. Last month, the Franco-Malian coach announced that he would only invite fringe players or non-regulars to camp for this tournament.

As a result, fans should expect to see names from the lower rungs of professional football and the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
In fact, just last weekend, Chelle was spotted at the Lekan Salami Stadium scouting Shooting Stars’ poster boy, Abayomi Junior. He also praised the striker, Lucky Emmanuel who scored a brace on the day.

But with the tournament kickoff just three weeks away, the official squad list has yet to be released.
When Will Eric Chelle Announce the Super Eagles Unity Cup Squad?
With the Unity Cup scheduled to kick off on May 26 in London, Eric Chelle is expected to name his squad shortly.

According to sources close to the team, the list will be revealed next week. Typically, Super Eagles squad announcements are made on Fridays; as such, the official squad roster will likely be made public next Friday.

Several names are already rumored to have made the cut. AIK talent Zadok Yohanna, Millwall’s Femi Azeez, and Shooting Shooting Stars’ Abayomi Junior are among those reportedly on Chelle’s shortlist. By next week, the full squad will finally be confirmed.
The Super Eagles will play their first game of the Unity Cup on May 26 against Zimbabwe. Then, if they win, they will go on to take on the winner of the fixture between Jamaica and India.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have also lined up games against Poland and Portugal afterwards. But those games will be played by the senior Super Eagles stars.
