Victor Moses class permanent, Tijani cameos as Luton promotion bid continues to falter

Former Super Eagles star Victor Moses opened his Championship account for the season, yet had to watch his side Luton Town suffer a heavy defeat to Plymouth.

Moses’ goal, though a bright spot, was overshadowed by Luton’s struggles on the pitch as they succumbed to an away 3-1 loss.

The former Chelsea winger was the only scorer for his side, while countryman Muhamed Tijani, who played just 11 minutes, provided an assist late in the game.

Moses made his debut for Rob Edwards’ team during their 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at Kenilworth Road last Saturday.

The 33-year-old was, again, a second-half substitute against Plymouth, brought on in the 59th minute to replace injured Danish defender Mads Andersen.

It didn’t take long for Victor Moses to make his presence felt, finding the back of the net just 12 minutes after coming on, to mark his first goal for the Hatters. However, the celebrations were muted, as Plymouth were, at that point, firmly in control of the game.

The hosts had opened the scoring just eight minutes into the match, before doubling their advantage in the 69th minute.

Moses' welll-taken strike arrived two minutes after, briefly giving the visitors a glimmer of hope.

But just when it seemed Luton might stage a comeback, Plymouth struck again, with Nigeria youth international Muhamed Tijani teeing up the decisive strike deep into stoppage time.

That assist marked the maiden direct goal contribution in Pilgrims' colours for the 24-year-old, who joined the club only this summer from Czech side Slavia Prague.
