Luton Town have completed the unexpected signing of 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner Victor Moses on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old winger, who won the Premier League with Chelsea in the 2016/17 season, joins the Hatters after his contract with Russian side Spartak Moscow ended.
Moses brings vast experience, having played across Europe’s top leagues and internationally, with 38 caps for Nigeria and 29 for England at youth level.
He was part of Chelsea's title-winning squad under Antonio Conte and has represented clubs such as Liverpool, Inter Milan, and Fenerbahçe throughout his career.
A new challenge for Victor Moses
Luton Town manager Rob Edwards expressed his delight at securing the versatile veteran, stating that the club had been in talks with Moses for some time.
“Victor is one we’ve been talking to for quite a while. He trained with us last week and played 60 minutes in a behind-closed-doors game. We made a decision because we think he’s able to come in and help us,” said Edwards.
“He gives us more strength in depth and versatility because he’s someone who can play both sides or as a number ten. He’s tactically aware and can provide great competition for us.”
With nearly 550 career appearances, including World Cups and European club competition finals, Victor Moses brings a wealth of top-level experience to Luton.
Edwards, however, urged patience with the former Chelsea star. “I don’t want to put too much pressure on him and expect too much too soon. He’s fit and ready to make an impact, but he’ll need to get used to how we play.”
With the Hatters aiming to strengthen their squad for a competitive season, the acquisition of a player of Moses' caliber represents a statement of intent for the promotion-chasing club.
