Victor Osimhen to Galatasaray: ‘Box’ part of genius plan to cover superstar’s Year 1 salary

Published on by

As the dust is settling on Victor Osimhen’s return, this time permanently, to Galatasaray, the question arises: how are the Turkish giants funding such a massive operation?

Cim Bom revealed on social media on Thursday the eye-watering details of the deal that made the transfer possible. Not only will the 26-year-old assassin receive the highest salary in the history of Turkish football, but he is also due an additional €6 million yearly in loyalty bonus and image rights payments over the duration of his contract.

While Osimhen is one of the sport’s elite centre-forward’s, this still represents a massive outlay. It has forced Galatasaray to get creative, and now we know a few details concerning how they intend to offset the bill.

The Victor Osimhen Box

The club have unveiled a special box for purchase by fans. Known as the ‘Solo Il Gala Osimhen Box,’ it is on sale at the Galatasaray official store for the price of €215 apiece.

Contained within are a number of items with significance to their talisman. These include a Victor Osimhen mask with five stars, made from a rubbery material, as well as a scarf in the club’s iconic red and yellow.

There is also a limited edition jersey with a QR code in the label that, when scanned, grants access to digital content related to the transfer, as well as a message from the striker himself which reads, “This jersey in the box is not my jersey, it is all of ours… Every time you wear it, remember our history, remember us.”

How much revenue can the ‘Osimhen Box’ generate?

It is reported that the club hopes to sell 100,000 units of the ‘Osimhen Box’, at least in the initial run. If it sells as fast and is as popular as Galatasaray hope, they may be able to print more.

A sell-out of this first issue would rake in €21.5 million. Crucially, this amount would just about cover the Osimhen salary for the first year of his four-year contract with the club, an eventuality that would greatly relieve the financial burden on the club.

The 2023 CAF Player of the Year is to be paid €21 million gross per year at Galatasaray.
