Eighth time lucky for Victor Osimhen in Galatasaray second coming

Africa’s most expensive footballer of all time Victor Osimhen got off the mark for 2025/26 in Galatasaray’s thumping 4-0 win over Kayserispor on Sunday night.

The  26-year-old, who rejoined the Turkish champions following a hugely successful loan spell in 2024/25, when he led the club to a league and cup double with a record goal tally, was making only his second appearance since signing an eye-watering four-year permanent deal.

After only playing a cameo role the previous weekend against Karagumruk, Osimhen was finally handed a first start of the season by Galatasaray boss Okan Buruk. He repaid the manager’s faith with a goal, scored with four minutes of regulation time still to play.

How many shots has it taken for Victor Osimhen to open his account?

On 86 minutes, Victor Osimhen arrived in the six-yard box to tuck home a low Nicolo Zaniolo cross for 3-0.

That strike, interestingly, was his eighth shot this season, spanning two matches. Of his previous seven attempts, three were saved, while four missed the target entirely.

In all, despite the goal, it was a mixed performance by the Super Eagles star, who had to recover from a poor miss in the sixth minute. Osimhen lacked his typical dominance in physical engagements, only winning half his duels, and in possession he completed under 75 percent of his passes.

He however showed his knack for activity in the opposing penalty area has not waned, getting 15 touches in the Kayserispor box, in addition to his total six shots.
