”Would be like revenge” – Victor Osimhen names the Premier League giant he wants to face in UCL R16

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has revealed that he would prefer to avoid a clash with Liverpool in the next round of the UEFA Champions League, Afrik-Foot reports.

Osimhen put in a heroic performance for Galatasaray on Wednesday, despite their narrow 3-2 loss to Juventus at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.

After the Turkish giants won the first leg 5-2, Juventus fought back with three goals in normal time, threatening to pull off a historic comeback.

However, Osimhen proved his world-class credentials by turning up “clutch” in the first half of extra time, scoring the vital goal that put Galatasaray back in the driver’s seat. Baris Alper Yilmaz eventually sealed the aggregate victory late in the second half of extra time, ensuring the tie ended 7-5 in favor of the Cimbom.

Due to the tournament’s seeding and bracket structure, Galatasaray is now set to face one of the Premier League’s heavyweights—either Liverpool or Tottenham—in the Round of 16.

Speaking after the high-stakes match in Turin, Victor Osimhen was asked which opponent he would rather face in the next round.

While the Nigerian international expressed confidence in his team’s ability to compete with anyone, he admitted that a meeting with Liverpool is a daunting prospect.

The caution stems from the fact that Galatasaray already defeated the reigning Premier League champions during the league phase earlier this season. Osimhen is wary that Arne Slot’s men would be hungry for a “revenge” mission at Anfield.

”To be honest with you, meeting Liverpool now is going to be like some sort of revenge,” Osimhen told CBS Sports Golazo.

”I wouldn’t say much, but I would like to avoid Liverpool. But if we draw them, yeah, we’re going to dig it out. It’s not going to be easy. This is the Champions League; no team is easy—just look at how well Bodo/Glimt are doing.

”We’ve met Liverpool before, but we haven’t played at Anfield yet. If we meet them, it’s going to be an amazing game. I think we’re up to the task; it’s not going to be easy, but we have the fight in us.”

The draws for the Round of 16 will take place on Friday afternoon, where Osimhen and his teammates will finally learn their fate.

While Premier League sides have dominated Europe this season, the quality and grit shown by the Cimbom suggest they are capable of an upset.
