WAFCON 2026: Madugu’s plans dented as NFF cancels Super Falcons’ UK friendly

Published on by

The Super Falcons’ preparations for the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations have hit a snag, as the Nigeria Football Federation has pulled them out of the friendly game against Jamaica, Afrik-Foot reports.

Following the Super Falcons’ failure to play any game in the March window, the NFF arranged a friendly fixture for them against Jamaica in the United Kingdom.

This was expected to be a chance for coach Justine Madugu to try out new players and tactics ahead of the WAFCON, which is scheduled for July.

However, reports from Savid News indicate that the NFF has pulled out of the game. This is reportedly because Jamaica, who initially proposed the friendly, pulled out earlier.

This is a big blow for coach Madugu and his squad, who will be looking to find their rhythm as soon as possible, especially with the WAFCON beckoning.

What Next For Super Falcons?

This recent update is a big blow for the Super Falcons, who have been inactive since March.

This means that they won’t be able to gather until next month, just a few weeks before the start of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in July.

This edition is crucial, as it will decide Africa’s representatives for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. And of course, the 10-time African champions are looking to add one more crown to their name.

The next time the Nigerian women’s team will be in action will be in June, which is just a month before the competition starts.

Nigerian football fans will be hoping that this does not affect the psyche and morale of the players. It is not the first time that the team has been treated in such a worrying manner.
