WAFCON 2026: How much Super Falcons can earn from ₦8bn prize pool

The 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2026) is set to kick off this weekend, with the Super Falcons ready for action, Afrik-Foot reports.

Morocco will host the tournament for the third consecutive time and will be looking to lift the trophy for the first time ever.

Last time out, they came agonizingly close to the title, only to be edged out by the Super Falcons in the final. That triumph marked Nigeria’s 10th African title, and the team will now target an 11th.

Also, with four 2027 Women’s World Cup tickets at stake, reaching at least the semifinals is the primary objective.

Ahead of the tournament, the Super Falcons have an extra incentive to claim the crown in Morocco, following the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) announcement of a significant prize pool increase.

How Much Will the Super Falcons Earn By Winning WAFCON 2026?

On Wednesday, the CAF president Patrice Motsepe announced a 67% increase in the total prize money for the 2026 WAFCON, bringing the pool to $5.8 million (approximately ₦8 billion).

This increase means the tournament winner will take home $2 million (₦2.7 billion) — a 100% increase compared to previous editions.

Meanwhile, the runners-up will receive a 50% bump, raising their prize from $500,000 to $750,000 (₦1 billion), while the third-place finisher will secure $515,000 (₦707 million), representing a 43% increase.

Additionally, all 16 participating countries will receive a participation fee of $150,000 (₦206 million).

This is the largest prize pool in the history of the competition, providing the Super Falcons with even more motivation to go for gold.

The Super Falcons are in Group C of the tournament alongside Malawi, Zambia, and Egypt. They will play their opening match against Malawi on July 28, and they will be looking to start their campaign on strong footing.
