How Wilfred Ndidi became Beşiktaş’ unsung hero and Man United’s transfer interest

Published on by

When Nigeria international Wilfred Ndidi arrived at Beşiktaş in the summer, he was not the headline signing, Afrik-Foot reports.

But over the course of the season, he has quietly become one of the most important players at the club.

Playing alongside Kristjan Asllani, Ndidi has helped reshape Beşiktaş’s midfield into one of the most balanced units in the Turkish league. The numbers tell a clear story: the team have won four of their last five matches when both players have started together. That run of form has pushed Beşiktaş into a strong position domestically.

Ndidi’s role has been simple but vital. He protects the defence, breaks up attacks and allows more creative players to move forward. In five recent matches, he recorded nine interceptions and seven tackles, brilliantly showcasing his ability to read the game and win the ball back. Alongside him, Asllani has controlled possession, completing 144 of his 164 passes, an accuracy rate of 87.6%.

It is this balance that has made the difference. Ndidi does the hard work; Asllani keeps the ball moving. Together, they have given Beşiktaş control in midfield.

Since joining from Leicester City, Ndidi has also grown into a leadership role. He was named vice-captain shortly after arriving and has become a key voice in the dressing room. Despite dealing with injuries earlier in the campaign, he has returned each time to reclaim his place in the starting line-up.

His influence goes beyond defending. Ndidi has added more to his attacking game, scoring twice this season, including a powerful header that showed his threat from set-pieces. For a player known mainly for defensive work, that is a sign of development.

At Beşiktaş, Ndidi may not always grab the headlines, but his importance to the team is becoming clearer that he is the foundation that allows others to shine.

Manchester United circle as Wilfred Ndidi’s value rises

An unsung hero in Istanbul, Wilfred Ndidi’s performances is getting the right attention back in England. Manchester United are now showing strong interest in signing the Nigerian midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window.

United are looking to rebuild their midfield, with Casemiro expected to leave and Manuel Ugarte struggling for consistency. Ndidi is seen as a reliable option, a player with proven experience and the ability to shield the defence.

There is also a familiar voice backing the move. Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who has worked with Ndidi at Beşiktaş, is believed to have recommended him. His understanding of Ndidi’s discipline and leadership has strengthened United’s interest.

A possible deal could involve United’s Altay Bayındır moving in the opposite direction. Beşiktaş are keen to sign a top goalkeeper, and Bayındır, who has struggled for regular minutes at Old Trafford, fits that profile. Such a swap could benefit both clubs.

Ndidi’s current value, around €10 million, is seen as good business given his consistency and experience. Beşiktaş paid less than that to sign him, and his performances have already justified the investment.

Ndidi’s rise at Beşiktaş has been built on hard work rather than hype. Now, that quiet excellence is placing him back in the spotlight, and potentially on his way to one of the biggest clubs in the world.
