Nigerian striker Akor Adams is set to be sidelined until at least the end of December following a thigh injury sustained before the international break.

Reports from France confirm that the 24-year-old forward will miss Montpellier HSC's crucial Ligue 1 clash against AS Saint-Étienne and is expected to return later in the year.

Adams reportedly felt discomfort in his right thigh during Montpellier’s hard-fought 3-0 victory over Stade Brestois, which ended their five-match losing streak.

Initially withdrawn as a precaution, further assessments have now ruled him out of action for several weeks, leaving coach Jean-Louis Gasset without one of his key attacking options.

Adams shining light in Montpellier poor start to the season in France

The former Nigerian U20 international, who featured for the Flying Eagles at the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup, has been a bright spark in Montpellier’s difficult season.

Adams has played 11 matches, starting 10, and has registered three goals and two assists.

He delivered a standout performance in the 3-2 win over AJ Auxerre, where he scored a decisive brace, and also found the back of the net in a 3-1 loss to FC Nantes.

However, the striker has been in a dry spell since the Nantes game, mirroring Montpellier’s struggles, as they endured a poor run of form before finally securing victory against Brestois.

Montpellier currently sits at the bottom of the Ligue 1 table with seven points from 11 matches.

Losing Adams, their top contributor, is a significant blow as they fight to climb out of the relegation zone.

With the Nigerian forward sidelined, the team will need to find alternative solutions to revive their season.

Fans will now hope for Adams’ quick recovery as Montpellier battles to improve their fortunes.
