Super Eagles debutant Yira Sor has outlined the key qualities he brings to the national team ahead of their high-profile friendlies against Jordan and Iran, Afrik-Foot reports.

Nigeria returns to action for the first time since the 2025 AFCON, facing off against Asian powerhouses Jordan and Iran.

To prosecute these fixtures, head coach Éric Chelle called up a 23-man squad, including three fresh faces earning their maiden invitations: Philip Otele, Yira Sor, and Emmanuel Fernandez.

As training kicked off on Monday, Coach Chelle began assessing how to best deploy these new assets. Speaking in a pre-match interview ahead of Friday’s clash with Iran, Sor—the quick attacker—expressed his excitement and shared what fans can expect from him on the pitch.

In his first interview in the Super Eagles squad, Yira Sor spoke about his qualities. The Genk star noted that his speed is his main weapon. He also reflected on his rise from a passionate supporter to a squad member.

“I am a player with a lot of pace, and I’m a player that loves the link-up play. I hope I can give this to the team so that together we can achieve more,” Sor said.

”Just months ago during the AFCON, I was watching the team on television and I was nervous for every garme they played. I was supporting the team as a fan. Then, two or three months later, I got called up to join this squad. To be very honest, it was a real shock for me.”

Despite the surprise of just getting a maiden call-up, Sor is fully aware of the weight of the green-and-white jersey.

”I thank God for everything. To represent Nigeria—a nation of over 200 million people—is something I consider a massive honor. It is a privilege that I must not take for granted, and I have to give my best.”

Just a few weeks ago, Sor made the rounds after he reached a top speed of 39km/hr, the highest speed ever reached by a footballer since records began.

Fans will definitely be hungry to see that and more in the games against Jordan and Iran. He will hope that he gets the opportunity to get his debut and showcase his quality.
