Zaidu Sanusi: Why Porto will offer Premier League-linked Super Eagles star new deal

Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi has been heavily linked with a move to the English Premier League, but it is unlikely that a deal will take place, Afrik-Foot reports.

The last two years have been a rollercoaster for Sanusi, who has had to deal with persistent injury problems and managerial changes at Porto.

The Super Eagles star joined the former Portuguese champions from Santa Clara in a €4 million deal in 2020, and he quickly became a regular starter.

However, after returning from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria and sustaining a long-term injury, he struggled to regain his place in the team.

But this season, the 28-year-old left-back is experiencing a renaissance. He has become a key fixture in the starting XI under coach Francesco Farioli and has performed exceptionally well.

With Sanusi in the side, Porto are in contention for a potential treble. They currently top the Primeira Liga, are in the semifinals of the Portuguese Cup, and are also competing in the Europa League.

Sanusi has been a rock in defense and, as usual, has continued to contribute significantly in the final third.

Why Zaidu Sanusi Might Get A Contract Extension

Zaidu Sanusi’s contract at Porto runs until the end of next season, meaning he has just over a year left on his deal. Given his performances this season, he definitely won’t be short of suitors.

In fact, recent reports indicated that he was linked to some English Premier League clubs last summer, but he turned down the moves, choosing instead to remain at the Estádio do Dragão.

Meanwhile, recent reports from A BOLA suggest that Sanusi might receive a contract extension at Porto. According to their report, coach Farioli and the club’s hierarchy are thoroughly impressed by the Super Eagles star’s form.

Consequently, if he continues to perform well until the end of the campaign, an extension is highly likely. Moreover, having spent six years at the club already, the 28-year-old clearly still has a lot to offer.
