Advantage Bafana Bafana as Zimbabwe suffer massive blow ahead of AFCON meeting

Zimbabwe play South Africa in Group B’s finale hoping to advance to the next phase of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Egypt top the pool with maximum points from their opening two outings with Bafana Bafana coming second with three after a win and a loss. Both Angola and Zimbabwe have a point following a draw and defeat in their initial outings.

On Monday nigth, the Warriors will advance with a win over their regional rivals while Hugo Broos’s men can make it even with a draw. It explains why the game at Marrakesh Stadium is expected to be entertaining.

The Warriors have never made the Round of 16 in the biennial competition and are hoping they can achieve that. However, they will have to do without defender Teenage Hadebe who is injured.

Hadebe confirms he will not face South Africa

“It’s heartbreaking. I was desperate to fight for the badge in every single game, but this injury has struck. I am still awaiting a full assessment to understand the timeline, but I am hopeful of a quick recovery,” he said as quoted by the Herald.

If the team progresses to the next round, I aim to be ready to contribute. While I can’t be on the pitch, I will be there on the sidelines, backing the boys all the way. Now, my role is to support those who will go out and do the job.

“I believe we still have every opportunity to get the result we need against South Africa. The key is for the boys to adhere strictly to the coach’s plan and execute it with precision,” Hadebe concluded.

Brendan Galloway is expected to replace Hadebe in the game against South Africa.
