AFCON 2025 – Day 9 Preview: Fixtures, Head-to-Head Records, Kick-off Times & Broadcast Details

The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 enters a decisive phase on 30 December, with four crucial fixtures that could shape the knockout picture.

Here’s what to expect:

Uganda vs Nigeria

Nigeria who have already qualified for last 16 meet Uganda for only the second time at the AFCON finals when they clash in a Group C encounter at the Complex Sportif de Fès. Kick-off is scheduled for 17h00 local time (16h00 GMT).

Their previous AFCON meeting came in the semi-finals of the 1978 tournament, where Uganda stunned Nigeria 2-1 to reach the final. Abdulla Nasur opened the scoring early, Martins Eyo equalised after the break, but Phillip Omondi’s strike moments later sealed a famous win for the Cranes.

Across all competitions, the two nations have met eight times. Uganda hold the edge with four victories to Nigeria’s two, while two matches ended in draws. They were also paired in AFCON qualifying for the 1994 and 2008 tournaments, with Nigeria advancing on both occasions.

The most recent meeting was a goalless friendly in Asaba in 2018. Uganda are unbeaten in their last three games against Nigeria (W2 D1), while Nigeria’s last win came in March 2007 during AFCON qualifying, courtesy of Nwankwo Kanu’s goal in Abeokuta.

Tanzania vs Tunisia

The Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah Olympique Annexe in Rabat hosts a pivotal Group C clash between Tanzania and Tunisia, with both sides chasing a win that would secure a place in the knockout stages. Kick-off is at 17h00 local time (16h00 GMT).

This will be their first meeting at the AFCON finals. Their only previous encounters came during qualifying for the 2021 tournament. Tunisia won 1-0 in Radès thanks to Youssef Msakni, before a 1-1 draw in Dar es Salaam where Saïf-Eddine Khaoui’s opener was cancelled out by Feisal Salum. Tunisia went on to qualify; Tanzania fell short.

Botswana vs DR Congo

Botswana, already eliminated, face DR Congo in their final Group D fixture at the Stade Al Medina in Rabat. Kick-off is set for 20h00 local time (19h00 GMT).

This will be Botswana’s first AFCON match against a team from outside West Africa. It is also the sixth meeting between these nations, with DR Congo unbeaten and Botswana yet to score in this fixture. DR Congo have two wins, while three matches ended goalless, including a COSAFA Cup semi-final in 2016 where Botswana advanced on penalties. Their most recent clash was a 2-0 friendly win for DR Congo in 2017.

Benin vs Senegal

Benin and Senegal meet at the Grand Stade de Tanger in a Group D showdown that could decide their fate in the Round of 16. Kick-off is at 20h00 local time (19h00 GMT).

The sides have met once before at the AFCON finals, in 2019, when Senegal edged a tight quarter-final 1-0 thanks to Idrissa Gueye. Overall, Senegal dominate this fixture with seven wins from nine meetings. Benin’s only victory came in 1961, and they have not beaten Senegal in over six decades.

Senegal are unbeaten in their last eight games against Benin (W6 D2) and have scored in every encounter. Their clean sheets have all come in 1-0 wins, including the 2019 AFCON clash. The teams have also crossed paths in World Cup and AFCON qualifying, with Senegal consistently coming out on top, including a 3-1 win in 2023 qualifying where Sadio Mané scored a hat-trick.
