Another Portuguese at Chloorkop as Sundowns confirm fourth signing

Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the signing of Portuguese midfielder Miguel Reisinho who has become the club’s fourth signing.

Sundowns welcomed the 26-year-old, who becomes the second Portuguese player signed by the PSL champions in this window, having joined compatriot Nuno Santos, whose signing was completed on deadline day on Monday, and they will work under countryman Miguel Cardoso.

The 26-year-old has been without a club since leaving Portuguese club Boavista when his contract ended at the conclusion of last season and he is reported to have turned down overtures from Turkish side Kayserispor and Polish club Jagiellonia but the Sundowns project seems to have enticed him.

Reisinho has made 77 appearances in the Portuguese top flight, scoring eight goals and providing four assists, while playing for Boavista between 2019 and 2025.

Have Sundowns now found Ribeiro’s replacement?

He is yet to turn out for the Portugal senior team but has featured for the country’s U18, U19 and U20 teams and can play either as a central or attacking midfielder.

Reisinho will link up with Santos at Sundowns after the playmaker signed for a reported €1 million (R20 million) from Vitoria Guimaraes SC and made his debut in their 1-0 loss to Golden Arrows on Wednesday.

Sundowns are beefing up the squad after losing PSL Player of the Year Lucas Ribeiro and the two Portuguese players are seen as the ones who will lift the standards and add the creative spark that was lost when the Brazilian forward forced a move out of the club.

The PSL champions have a league match against Richards Bay on Saturday and it remains to be seen if Reisinho will make his debut.
