Asante Kotoko star ready to ‘surprise’ Chiefs – ‘They will try to underrate us’

Asante Kotoko are in South Africa to play Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday in the Toyota Cup that will be staged at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

It will be the first time the Glamour Boys will be playing on home soil since the end of last season. They have been camping in the Netherlands for three weeks, playing five pre-season games with Dutch teams.

The Saturday fixture will give Amakhosi fans a massive opportunity to have a look at the new players. The Soweto giants have confirmed the arrival of six players, namely Flavio Silva (Persebaya Surabaya, Indonesia), Ethan Chislett (Port Vale, England), Nkanyiso Shinga (FC Alverce, Portugal), Paseka Mako (Orlando Pirates), Thabiso Monyane (Orlando Pirates), and Siphesihle Ndlovu (SuperSport United).

‘Kotoko ready to surprise Chiefs'

Last season, Chiefs fell 4-0 against Tanzania's Young Africans in the same fixture. Kotoko's striker Kwame Opoku concedes this weekend's outing will be tough, but insists the Ghanaian outfit will be aiming at causing an upset.

“We all know that Asante Kotoko is one of the biggest clubs in Africa. So ahead of every game, we try to do well, we want to win every game for ourselves and for our supporters, so we want to win come Saturday to make our fans very happy,” he said as quoted by Wontumi Sports.

I’ve been monitoring them from a distance. The last game they played, we watched some of it, so [we're] looking forward to the coming game because we’ll also try to surprise them. I’m sure they will try to underrate us, but in the end it’s football — anything can happen — so we’ll do as much as possible to surprise them this coming Saturday,” Opoku concluded.
