Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana has made history in Tunisia after becoming the first South African to win the league in the country.
Mokwana was on the scoresheet as Esperance thrashed Olympique Beja 5-0 on Sunday to secure a record extending 34th league title in their storied history.
The Tunisian giants meant business with Yan Sasse giving them a 2-0 lead in the first half, after scoring twice, before Youcef Belaili and Houssem Tka added two more in the 57th and 68th minutes and Mokwana completed the rout with the fifth goal 12 minutes from time.

That saw Esperance take their tally to 65 points from 29 matches, four ahead of second-placed Monastir, and with one game remaining, they sealed their title.
Mokwana has had great debut season in Tunisia
Esperance had their great attack to thank as they scored 57 goals to Monastir’s 42 with the latter conceding the fewest, after letting just 11, to the champions’ 22.
Meanwhile, Mokwana has enjoyed a great first season in Tunisia after joining the club ahead of the 2024-25 campaign from Sekhukhune United, managing five goals and four assists, in 31 games across all competitions.

It is the second trophy for the South African international in Tunisia after winning the Super Cup early this year.
Mokwana joined Esperance for $400,000 (R7.5 million), signing a three-year contract, and after an initial struggle, he has since blossomed.
