Orlando Pirates youngster Relebohile Mofokeng is reportedly on the radar of Spanish giants Barcelona who are monitoring his progress.
Mofokeng is among young players doing well in the PSL and has become a star since his introduction to the senior team in the final months of the 2022-23 campaign, going on to be named Young Player of the Year at the PSL Awards last season.
He has similarly started 2024-25 in great form with four goals and seven assists in 17 games already to his name and now, there are reports that there is interest from Spain with Barcelona B scouts making enquiries over his availability.
Barcelona have ‘made enquiries’ over the player
“There have been inquiries from Barcelona over Relebohile Mofokeng,” a source told Soccer Laduma.
“The boy has been monitored by the coaches of the Barcelona B team with interest. They have been following him and made approaches with some of his contacts in the PSL, including certain coaches they know closely, asking about the player.
“He is a player with potential to play in some of the big teams in Europe and the feedback has been positive on the enquires made.”
It is not the first time the 20-year-old has been rumoured to have attracted interest from abroad with Scottish giants Rangers and Levante FC from Spain also reported to have been tracking him in the off-season.
Should Rele move abroad if an offer is tabled?
The player opted to stay at Pirates amidst the interest with Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos among those who advised him against rushing into a move abroad.
However, former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye feels ‘Rele’ is a good fit for Barcelona and should make the switch if the Spanish club express a firm interest.
“As far as I know, it has never happened before that Barcelona are interested in our players. Those people are smart and they do things properly when it comes to development. They have a good eye for young talent,” Khanye told the outlet.
“Even when it comes to international football, Spanish football is always exciting and I think their game can suit the boy. In terms of technique and tactical approach, the boy’s style would suit the way Spanish football is all about. I wish that kind of move can happen for him.”
