South Africa legend Benni McCarthy was unveiled as Kenya's Harambee Stars tactician effective immediately.
The former striker takes over from Engin Firat who resigned a couple of months ago after failing to deliver as expected.
The decision to coach Kenya came as a shock to a section of the fans. While some have lauded the move, others feel it is a downgrade for McCarthy who has been a free agent after his exit from Manchester United where he was serving as strikers' coach.
Kenya has talent, Benni must ignore loud-mouth legends

Safa should be making Benni McCarthy an assistant coach at Bafana and let him coach strikers while waiting for his chance to become the national team coach. Or they must give him the under-23 national team, not let him go help other countries build – Derrick Maphoru
We are behind him, Kenya has top-class talent he must just ignore the loud-mouth legends – Zakes Ka Zakade
Benni must know Harambee Stars have never been a powerhouse. Kenyans are not good at football, they are good at marathons – Peter Tsoki
I've always said that coaching a national team is far easier than a club. People will always talk about training, those players train every day with their teams. It is just for you to pick the right players for your philosophy and work with them in those 3 days then boom! Good move Bennie – Mangaliso Senzo
Benni, prove the critics wrong, you didn't do anything to anyone. Your career is yours, show your capability of not being a pushover – Umh Younq Rankii
Against Bafana, do you think Benni will wish Kenya to win?

Kenya has never been a powerhouse in Africa. They have never even reached the quarter-final of Afcon. Benni McCarthy is already confused – Lennie Len
Congratulations, coach Benni, and all the best! 2027 Afcon hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda I thinks is gonna be one of the best tournaments – Mlungisi Nyathi
So when South Africa's Bafana Bafana play against Kenya, do you think Benni will continue wishing Harambee Stars to win – UVelabemhleba Khulabemgqilaza Ncobela Tshawuza
I’m super proud of our coaches who are coaching outside South Africa, I wish them luck. We have never had this number of tacticians coaching outside Mzansi – Mithayelanga Mputa
Kenya doesn't produce ballers, the only baller from Kenya is Victor Wanyama. They must have promised him a very good cheque to take this job – Ben Tshepz
