Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy feels what ails Kaizer Chiefs is a combination of poor management and a bad attitude from players who are not well-coached.
Chiefs are going through a tough period that has seen them lose four straight games, three in the league, to knock them out of the title race, while they were eliminated from all cup competitions at the early stages.
Their struggles are not just limited to this season as they have been poor for over a decade since winning the league in 2015, managing just one trophy over that period, last season’s Nedbank Cup.

This season’s poor form has seen co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef blamed for not being good enough while there are those who feel the squad is ill-suited to challenge both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns but McCarthy thinks the team is well capable but those managing it in the boardroom and in the dugout must pull up their socks.
“Everybody should be on the same page of wanting to achieve something,” McCarthy said on SuperSport TV. “Management doing what they need to do. Then the technical team, coaches and support staff have to play their part.”
McCarthy, who recently admitted to be a Kaizer Chiefs fan, and one who would like to coach the club in future, has absolved the players from blame but thinks they have been made to feel inferior when they are as good as some of the best in the division.

“When I see from outside, there is a little bit of an imbalance between the technical team, coaches and the players because the players don’t play like they play for Kaizer Chiefs, the badge and legends that got the team here,” he added.
“There is no cohesion, not coordinated properly but I think once the technical team get on the same page, they can because they have damn good players.
“I watched the Richards Bay game, Stellenbosch and the [Soweto] derby and those players think they do not belong there, don’t deserve to play for Chiefs and when you believe that, no matter what you do, it will not happen. You have to believe you are good enough. You are at Chiefs for a reason.”
Chiefs will play fourth-placed Durban City in their next league game on Sunday, hoping to put a stop to their poor run.
