Can Kaizer Chiefs win PSL title? Nasreddine Nabi responds

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has responded to queries over whether he thinks his team can be counted among the PSL title contenders.

Chiefs struggled in Nabi’s first season as they limped to a ninth-place finish in the PSL, although they won the Nedbank Cup, to provide a silver lining to what was a tough campaign.

Following the end of the season, there was pressure on Nabi with his position uncertain, but the Nedbank Cup win seems to have bought him time as he survived the axe.

Heading into the 2025-26 campaign, there is an expectation that Chiefs will do better than last season with Nabi aware that excuses will not be tolerated again but does the veteran tactician feel his team can be counted among the title contenders?

“How we’re approaching the season with the league, the Nedbank Cup and the CAF Confederations Cup is to take game by game and do everything we can in every game to win that game,” Nabi told the media as quoted by iDiski Times.

“Maybe it’s not gonna be possible to win all the games, maybe it’s gonna be possible but we gonna challenge for every game in whatever capabilities that we will be in. To challenge in every game and every competition and after that we will see where we stand,” added Nabi, opting to remain coy over his team’s chances.

Chiefs have been strengthening the squad in a bid to give them an edge next season with the club bringing in six players so far being striker Flavio Silva, midfielders Ethan Chislett and Siphesihle Ndlovu as well as defenders Nkanyiso Shinga, Paseka Mako and Thabiso Monyane.

The Glamour Boys are expected to add more players to the squad before the transfer window closes as Nabi is still looking for more attacking reinforcements with a goalkeeper and midfielder also on his wish list.

Chiefs have experienced a mixed pre-season, winning one of five matches against Dutch clubs during their two-week stay in the Netherlands last month, while they played out a goalless draw, losing 3-2 on post-match penalties, with Ghana giants Asante Kotoko in the Toyota Cup last weekend.
