Chiefs legend Khune picks who between Mbule and Mofokeng is better at No.10

Kaizer Chiefs legend Itumeleng Khune has weighed in on the debate of who between Sipho Mbule and Relebohile Mofokeng is better in the No.10 role for Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana.

Mbule is set to be the man tasked with providing creativity for Bafana Bafana at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, having sprung to prominence in recent months, but Mofokeng is also another player who can play behind the striker.

Mofokeng is known mostly for his wing play as he has made a name for himself playing out wide but has shown that he can also play behind the striker due to his intelligence that allows him to operate in tight spaces and open up stubborn defences.

As Bafana Bafana head to AFCON 2025, opinion is divided over the two players’ quality in the No.10 role and Khune has given his opinion on what differentiates the Pirates duo.

Khune differentiates Mbule and Rele in No.10

“Rele is more a player that can pick a pass, there’s a situation where Rele wanted to chip the ball to the far post instead of him try to take a shot,” Khune said on SABC during Bafana Bafana’s match with Ghana.

“The difference is Mbule can take a shot, Rele can’t. Rele wants to collect. As a number 10 he always wants to combine, get a touch and then pass the net.”

In the same breadth, Sundowns legend Hlompho Kekana gave his opinion on the rise to prominence of Mofokeng who is among the wonderkids heading to AFCON 2025.

“I like how is mobile on the ball. Like I said when we saw this kid before, he used to be that kid that likes to do darling, darling on the ball,” he added. “Now he controls his body shape, move to half spaces, occupy spaces that will hurt any number six.”
