Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef is impressed with the impact the new players have had on the Glamour Boys, at the same time insisting there are internal targets that have been set before the season reaches the halfway point.

Amakhosi have had an impressive start to the ongoing 2025/26 Premier Soccer League campaign, winning the initial three matches without conceding. The latest outing was on Tuesday night against Richards Bay at the FNB Stadium, where a Gaston Sirino strike sealed the deal.

Out of the nine players signed, only Paseka Mako, Thabiso Monyane and Siphesihle Ndlovu have featured.

‘Chiefs play to win the PSL'

“We have our target inside. It's inside the team between the players and the technical staff. And it's discussed in our meetings in the dressing room, you can ask about it. We know what we have to do, and we keep it between us,” he told the media.

“We take every game, game by game. We don’t think about anything. We don't have any pressure. For sure, Kaizer Chiefs is the biggest club in South Africa. We play in the league. We play to win the league.

“I think we saw the quality of these players. We need these players to help us on the team, but they come to fight for their positions. Positions at Kaizer Chiefs are difficult. It's very tough to be on this team. The mentality of these players: they need to fight to get their positions and to help the team. And now we have players who are performing well, so they have to fight to keep their positions,” he added.

When will Shinga & Flavio and Chislett make their competitive debut?

“Nkanyiso Shinga is ready; he received his card to play, but he still has some work to do with our fitness coach, Majdi [Safi],” Ben Youssef continued.

“Silva, received [on Monday] his card [but] it was late for us. We had already decided on the plan of the game. Ethan was sick last week, so he didn’t attend any training sessions. Hence, he is not with us, but he is eligible to play,” he concluded.

The next assignment for Chiefs will be on Wednesday when they host defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns at the FNB Stadium.
