Kaizer Chiefs are currently in the Netherlands for pre-season without their captain Yusuf Maart, who is ready for a new challenge.
The 29-year-old played a crucial role in helping the Glamour Boys end their trophy drought by scoring the winning goal in the 2-1 Nedbank Cup final victory against old rivals Orlando Pirates. Amakhosi extended the midfielder's deal, and many supporters had expected to have the player with them in the 2025/26 campaign.
However, as explained, the former Sekhukhune United skipper is ready for a new challenge, “Maart is set to join newly promoted Austrian Bundesliga side SV Ried 1912, where he will link up with former Stellenbosch FC winger Antonio van Wyk,” FARPost confirmed on Monday.
However, nothing official has been communicated by the involved parties.
Why did Chiefs choose the Netherlands for pre-season?
The Glamour Boys' Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr has now revealed why they opted to go to the Netherlands for pre-season.
“It’s about cross-cultures and about having a pre-season at a higher level than we are used to, which also has to do with having really competitive training matches,” he told the club's media team.
“Training and playing games in Europe is also about getting players out of their comfort zone. It’s a different environment; it’s about a lot of travelling to the training matches and it’s about preparing the mindset of the players for the upcoming season.
“That’s why we are so happy that the Chairman, Dr Kaizer Motaung, and the Board supported us to go overseas for pre-season again,” he concluded.
