Dillan Solomons shares how Chiefs players are coping with Nabi exit reports

Kaizer Chiefs defender Dillan Solomons has opened up about how Kaizer Chiefs players have been dealing with reports that coach Nasreddine Nabi could leave the club.

Nabi’s position has been subject of speculation since he guided the team to the Nedbank Cup win nearly two weeks ago with reports claiming the club had decided to part ways with him.

The reports came just a day after Nabi had masterminded a 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup to end Chiefs’ 10-year wait for a trophy and the celebrations were overshadowed with rumours over the tactician’s future.

However, the club hierarchy, led by Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung and Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr, have come out to assure Nabi of his job, although claims that there will be a review of the season have led to the thinking that the veteran coach is still not safe.

According to Solomons, Chiefs players have taken it in their stride but are also in the dark over their coach’s future.

“Obviously, people have been talking. But there is nothing we can do about people who are talking,” Solomons told FARPost at the Kaizer Chiefs Village on Wednesday.

“We just have to do what we can do, and that is coming to training, putting in the work, and showing the coach that we are here to work. And that’s all we can do. As a team, we can only control what we can control. If people are going to talk outside, that’s their opinion, and we will see.

Will the veteran tactician retain his job?

“We don’t know what is going on. All we can do is come here [Naturena] and put in the work.”

Nabi’s future has come into focus over his team’s poor run in the league where they are in danger of missing out on a top eight finish for a second straight year, having gone eight matches without a win in the PSL.

That has eroded the confidence that greeted his arrivals last July although the tactician has maintained that he is on a long-term project since his squad still needs rebuilding.

Chiefs face Polokwane City in their final league match of the season on Saturday and must win to be sure of a place in the top eight.
