Kaizer Chiefs directors insist coach Nasreddine Nabi is here to stay despite reports that the club will cut ties with him at the end of the season.
Nabi’s future has been a subject of discussion soon after he won the Nedbank Cup following a 2-1 victory against Orlando Pirates in the final on Saturday.
Reports have claimed that Chiefs have already decided to terminate the veteran tactician’s contract due to the team’s underwhelming season, especially in the PSL, where they are in ninth position and in danger of missing out on the top eight.
However, Chiefs Marketing and Commercial Director Jessica Motaung and Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr have reiterated their earlier statements that coach Nabi will be given a stay of execution.
Chiefs bosses have ‘confidence’ in Nabi
“A lot of work has been done; a three-year foundation has been laid. The coach has been given the resources that he needs to do what he needs to do,” Jessica said on Newzroom Afrika.
“There has been support commercially, financially with players and we have brought in a technical team that is strong and we have seen what they have been able to do with the Nedbank Cup and we believe in these [last] two games, the guys will do their best.
“Ours is to make sure that we continue supporting and making sure that they are successful.”
When asked if she is confident in the methods of Nabi, Jessica was emphatic in her response.
“How can we not be confident? We have just won the Nedbank Cup and he is doing the job that he needs to do,” she added.
What should Amakhosi fans expect?

Kaizer Jr also weighed in on the same, insisting winning a trophy, a first one for the club in 10 years, is proof that the tactician is the right man for the job.
“In all interviews we have had, we have been very clear, the coach is here with us, we have just won a trophy and we said before the season we had a particular plan. They have done tremendous work and he is our coach,” he said.
However, there was a caveat when Jessica said there will be a review of the season, which could potentially lead to a parting of ways, even if the two directors maintain that will not happen.
“Like any other team, you sit down and review the season and still say what needs to change or what needs to be added but our commitment is making sure that Chiefs is successful,” said Jessica.
Chiefs have two league games remaining, against Sekhukhune United and Polokwane City, and need positive results to seal a place in the top eight after managing 10th position last season.
