‘Doesn’t affect us’ – Bruce Bvuma unshaken by Kaizer Chiefs criticism

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma is unfazed by the criticism that has been labeled on them both by fans and coach Nasreddine Nabi.

Chiefs have been slammed for their lack of quality with the squad badly in need of a makeover, a damning indictment on the current players, but Bvuma is not letting that affect his motivation.

There has been a feeling that the constant criticism is having an impact on the players as they might not put in enough, knowing fans and the coach do not believe in them, but the goalkeeper feels the squad should not be affected by that as it comes with the territory.

Why is Bvuma unbothered by criticism?

“Well, we all knew that when you play for this team, every opponent or player in and outside this country will want to come and take your job, they'll want to come and play here,” said Bvuma as quoted by SABC.

“So, when you are here, and you are given the chance to play, you just have to work hard and grab your opportunity, so whatever has been said doesn't affect us – it doesn't affect me as a player, but I just keep on focusing on my job and working hard.”

Chiefs are actively working to secure more additions to the squad with a midfielder, striker, winger and goalkeeper among those on their wish list.

Amakhosi have struggled for consistency again this season with the excitement that greeted Nabi’s arrival having disappeared as they have won four, lost as many of their 11 league games to stay in seventh place on the PSL table with 15 points.

That is already 15 points less than leaders Mamelodi Sundowns while their strike force is blunt with the defence leaking.

Ranga Chivaviro and Mduduzi Shabalala are their top scorers with four goals each while they have kept just one clean sheet in the PSL and two across all competitions.

“The clean sheets will come, and it's not because it's me, or Brandon [Petersen] or [Fiacri] Ntwari, or Bontle [Molefe] who's playing, but it's a team thing,” added Bvuma.

“So, if the team plays well, if we defend well as a team, definitely the clean sheets will come, and we obviously all have plans – ‘I want to play, I want to keep the number-one spot,' so I have to perform as well.”
