Kaizer Chiefs Transfers: Nabi opens up on what he expects in January

Published on by Joel Oliver

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi expects transfer activity from his side this month in a bid to strengthen his squad that has so far underperformed.

Chiefs have endured an inconsistent season and even the excitement that greeted Nabi’s appointment has since disappeared with the tactician unable to put together a good run of results.

Amakhosi have so far lost four league matches, winning as many, while drawing three to leave them in seventh position on the log and missed an opportunity to move into the top four following a 1-0 loss to Cape Town City on Sunday.

The defeat once again exposed the weaknesses within the Chiefs team and Nabi is keen to address some of them in the midseason transfer window, having been linked with a number of players in South Africa and beyond.

What does Nabi expect this month?

“It’s obvious when you look at the squad that we feel that there is a need to strengthen the team, but we don’t want to throw our players under the bus saying that they are not good,” Nabi told the media.

“No, they are good. Today they are in our squad, they are in our team but every transfer window we will take the opportunity to try to strengthen the team.

“The club is working hard to find the best opportunities that are possible, and we hope that everything can improve our squad.”

Nabi, who signed Fiacre Ntwari, Bradley Cross, Rushwin Dortley, Miguel Inacio, Bongani Sam, Gaston Sirino and Njabulo Blom in the off-season transfer window, has been credited with an interest in Tanzanian midfielder Feisal Salum, Stellenbosch left-back Fawaaz Basadien, Kenyan striker Michael Olunga and Chippa United goalkeeper Stantley Nwabali among others.
