The Bafana Bafana midfielder’s absence on Wednesday further cast doubt on his MLS future
Njabulo Blom’s future was further cast in doubt when he did not make the matchday squad for St Louis FC in their 4-2 Leagues Cup defeat to Club America on Wednesday morning.
The former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder was suspended for last weekend’s MLS clash against Portland Timbers over violation of team rules but he was expected to be back after the game.
However, in the cup match, Blom was nowhere to be seen having been snubbed by coach John Hackworth, fueling rumours that his time at the club could be coming to an end.
Blom signed a two-year contract when he joined St Louis, which ends in four months’ time, but the club has an option to extend it by a further two years.

Is it time for Blom to return home?
However, talks are yet to begin and the recent disciplinary issue does not help his case.
Hackworth had clarified that Blom would be back in the squad after the one-match suspension but his absence from the squad on Wednesday speaks volumes and the Bafana Bafana midfielder might perhaps start looking for a way out.
That has cast the spotlight on Chiefs again as they are one of the teams that would benefit from his quality.
The Glamour Boys are desperate for reinforcements and midfield is one of the areas that need strengthening.

Chiefs would benefit from Blom’s quality
New coach Nasreddine Nabi has been crying out for more signings but so far, he has only received goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari, and defenders Bongani Sam and Rushwin Dortley as well as ex-Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Gaston Sirino.
Blom would therefore represent a major upgrade for Amakhosi and he has the added advantage of knowing the club well after honing his skills at Naturena.
The 24-year-old would also lift sprints both in the dressing room as well as the stands as his signing would be a massive hit with Chiefs fans who still adore him following his four-year spell when he made 94 appearances across all competitions.
With his stay in Missouri looking uncertain, Chiefs would be wise to start a charm offensive which would perhaps persuade one of their best products to return home to boost them in the 2024-25 season.
