Ex-Chiefs coach set for Lepasa as boss confirms interest in former Pirates striker

South Africa international striker Zakhele Lepasa is currently being chased by several teams in the Premier Soccer League.

The 28-year-old was released by Orlando Pirates a couple of days ago, deeming him surplus to requirements thanks to the arrival of another Bafana Bafana forward Yanela Mbuthuma, who was signed from Richards Bay.

One of the teams that have shown interest publicly are newly promoted Durban City FC. The Premier Soccer League newbies are coached by former Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt. Club's chairman Farouk Kadodia has confirmed they will be in for the experienced striker.

Lepasa could really help Durban City FC

Kadodia has revealed he has already initiated talks with the player's agent, insisting they are determined to get the player because they know his quality. However, he has conceded the competition is stiff because others are also hoping to have him.

“Yes, we are interested in Zakhele Lepasa. He is a very good striker who could really help us at a team. We have spoken to his agent, and we are waiting for him to come back to us, and then we will take it from there. But seriously, we are interested in him and he has worked with coach Gavin Hunt before and he knows him very well,” he told Soccer Laduma.

“I understand there are other clubs who are also interested in Zakhele Lepasa, and you know in football it's all about money and who offers you better money, and we may lose out on him because of that, but we are looking at having him in the team if we can,” Kadodia concluded.

Lepasa is currently with Bafana Bafana, preparing for 2024 CHAN, scheduled to start on Saturday, August 2.
