A former Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu FC defender has announced his retirement from football at the age of 36.

For reasons often unclear, PSL players frequently find it difficult to come to a decision to retire. Notable players such as Happy Jele, Lebogang Mokoena, and Siphiwe Tshabalala have yet to make official announcements regarding their retirement.

Many of those that are unattached continue to express their desire to play.

In contrast, former Orlando Pirates left-back Marc Van Heerden has confirmed his retirement shortly after departing from Cape Town City in June.

Born in Johannesburg, Van Heerden took to X on Sunday evening to announce his decision, indicating his intention to pursue a career in coaching.
