EXCLUSIVE: Why PSL has delayed Nedbank Cup final ticket sale

Published on by

The excitement is building among South African football enthusiasts for the Nedbank Cup final between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs. They are eagerly awaiting the release of tickets to ensure they can experience the highly anticipated clash live at the stadium.

Afrik-Foot has established why the tickets are yet to go on sale.

Arch-rivals Amakhosi and Buccaneers are set to battle for the Nedbank Cup trophy on May 10th. The highly anticipated final will take place at the iconic Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, a venue for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

The much-anticipated clash presents a crucial opportunity for the Phefeni Glamour Boys as they aim to end their close to ten-year wait for silverware.

The last time the Kaizer Motaung-owned side lifted silverware was in the 2014/15 season under Scottish tactician Stuart Baxter, who had guided them to both the MTN8 and ABSA Premiership titles before his departure.

Since then, Chiefs were downed in four finals: MTN8, Telkom Knockout Cup, Nedbank Cup and CAF Champions League. They finished second in the 2019/20 under the guidance of Ernst Middendorp.

Meanwhile, Ezimnyama Ngenkani, under the guidance of Jose Riveiro, will be aiming to make history by achieving a Nedbank Cup three-peat, having already lifted the trophy in the previous two seasons.

For the Pirates players, this Nedbank Cup final represents perhaps the biggest opportunity to bid farewell to outgoing Spanish coach Riveiro with a trophy, as the Betway Premiership title appears increasingly out of reach with log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in a commanding position.

WHY THE NEDBANK CUP FINAL TICKETS HAVE YET TO GO ON SALE

As the opening of ticket sales for the Nedbank Cup final is still pending, Afrik-Foot sources indicated that the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has moved on from their previous provider, TicketPro. It's understood that the new ticket provider is set to be announced on Thursday, May 1st.

The league's mother body, the PSL, has also confirmed the kick-off time for the final, stating it will commence at 15:30 in the afternoon.
