Feisal Salum: Azam make decision on Chiefs & Sundowns target

Kaizer Chiefs could be about to lose out on yet another transfer target after Tanzanian club Azam FC tabled a lucrative contract proposal to midfielder Feisal Salum.

Popularly known as Fei Toto, the Zanzibari midfielder has become a key target for Chiefs and also Mamelodi Sundowns following his impressive performances for Azam in the Tanzanian league and scored 21 goals in 2023-24.

He has continued his rich vein of form this season, scoring four goals and adding nine assists, increasing interest in him from the Soweto giants.

What has Azam offered Salum?

Salum has 18 months remaining on his contract and Chiefs are hoping that they can lure him to South Africa to add creativity to Nasreddine Nabi’s team but Azam have tabled a bumper contract in a bid to wade off the interest from the PSL giants.

As per Soka25east, Azam have tabled a new contract to Salum that includes a signing-on fee of $320,000 (R6.6 million) and a monthly salary of $12,000 (R223,315) to convince him to extend his stay with the Dar es Salaam side.

Azam view Salum as a key member of the squad as he is largely the reason they finished second last season, and qualified for the CAF Champions League, while he has played a major role in their run to third place this term, having garnered 36 points, four behind leaders Simba SC, who are coached by South African Fadlu Davids.

The Tanzania club recently shed light on the future of the in-demand midfielder, saying he is in Tanzania to stay.

“We can confirm that there have been no discussions between Kaizer Chiefs or any club and Azam FC regarding Feisal Salum. He remains under contract with Azam FC and respects the club, which we appreciate,” Azam spokesperson Hashim Ibwe said in November.

Salum is currently on international duty for Zanzibar in the regional Mapinduzi Cup and scored the only goal as his country beat Kilimanjaro Stars (Tanzania Mainland) 1-0 in their opening match on Friday.
