Former Kaizer Chiefs Player Weighs In on Nabi’s Departure

Published on by

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Mokete Tsotetsi believes the reported departure of head coach Nasreddine Nabi won't negatively impact the team. Tsotetsi says it's better for the club to resolve this issue now rather than halfway through the season.

Reports from various sources across Africa suggest that Kaizer Chiefs and Nabi have split ways over a dispute about the coach's certification for the CAF Confederation Cup.

In response, assistant coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef are set to step in and lead the team for their CAF opener against Kabuscorp in Angola.

This is not new territory for the duo, who also guided the team through their first four matches of the season while Nabi was attending to a family matter in Tunisia.

‘I DON’T THINK IT WILL AFFECT THEM THAT MUCH’

“It can work two ways. He didn’t start the season with the team, so if he is leaving, they would be left with the two assistants they were working with in the absence of the coach (Nabi),” Tsotetsi said to Soccer Laduma.

“I don’t think it would affect the team that much to a point where it destabilises the team. They would still be working with faces they are used to before, so I don’t think it would affect them that much.

“I think it's better that this is happening early (in the season) rather than later. It's still early in the season, so they can still recover. And like I mentioned, working with the two coaches (Kaze and Ben Youssef) will be good for them because they know these coaches.”
