Former PSL Golden Boot winner Ishmael Maluleke has offered an interesting opinion of the PSL all-time leading scorers list currently headed by Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile.
Shalulile overtook Kaizer Chiefs legend Siyabonga Nomvethe, when he reached 130 goals across all competitions last month, and with the ex-Amakhosi star now retired, he looked to be unchallenged.
However, Shalulile’s is increasingly coming under massive threat from Sekhukhune United forward Bradley Grobler who has moved to 125 goals in just two months since the 2025-26 season started.
That has made him a favourite to overtake Shalulile at the top of the tree but Maluleke does not see it happening and has even claimed that the Sundowns striker’s record will last for five years.
Why Maluleke is not backing Grobler to break it

“It’s not going to be easy to catch Shalulile, 130 goals is a big record,” Maluleke told FARPost.
“You need to look at Bradley Grobler, a person who has been in the league for a long time, and I think he is over 30 now. So if he was still a bit young, he would stand a chance to break that record.
“I think it’s still going to take some time to reach the 130 goals. So I don’t see him doing that because if Grobler suffers injuries, he always takes time to recover. So I see Shalulile staying with this record for five years,” he added.
Maluleke is, however, looking at the positive side to the situation, expressing his delight that goals are now being scored at will in the PSL.
What has impressed the ex-PSL Golden Boot winner?

“It’s impressive that strikers are scoring goals. That’s what supporters need to see. Supporters are not happy when goals are not scored because they always want to celebrate. Irrespective of whoever is scoring, whether it’s their club or their opponents,” he added.
“So I think now that we have two top seasonal strikers who are scoring goals, it makes the league very exciting.”
Of the two strikers, Grobler, who is 37, enjoys regular gametime at Sekhukhune while Shalulile lost his place as a Sundowns regular which kind of gives the veteran forward an edge as he chases the historic achievement.
