Kaizer Chiefs announce new captain

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs are ushering in a new era as Head Coach Nasreddine Nabi has officially named Inacio Miguel as the club's permanent captain for the upcoming season.

This significant announcement follows the recent departure of midfielder Yusuf Maart, who concluded his three-year stint with Amakhosi to join Austrian Bundesliga side SV Ried earlier this month.

Miguel, the Angolan defender, has already stepped into the leadership role, notably wearing the captain's armband during the recent Toyota Cup clash against Asante Kotoko, as well as in the pre-season friendlies held during the team's Netherlands camp.

MIGUEL TAKES OVER CAPTAINCY AT CHIEFS

Nabi's decision solidifies Miguel's position at the helm, with the coach stating simply, “Today, Miguel [was a captain], he will captain the team for the upcoming season.”

This clear declaration underscores the faith placed in the defender to lead the Soweto giants forward.

Beyond the captaincy, Nabi also shared his reflections on the Kotoko match, expressing overall satisfaction despite the 3-2 penalty shootout loss. “I'm very satisfied with what I saw in the game. It allowed us to see where we are right now,” Nabi commented.

He acknowledged the team's efforts and the missed chances, saying, “We could have won the match in the last ten minutes of the game. Unfortunately, we didn't and that's how it is.”

With two weeks remaining before their 2025/26 Betway Premiership opener against Stellenbosch FC, the coach is focused on refining the squad, aiming to build on the positives and address areas needing improvement.
