Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has lauded the performance of Khanyiso Mayo following the team’s commanding 4-1 victory over Magesi FC on Wednesday.

The Soweto giants secured their fifth consecutive win with a dominant display at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Mayo marked his return to the scoresheet after playing the entire second half, while Reeve Frosler also made a significant impact, providing two assists upon his return to the lineup.

“I think the first thing is Mayo; we’re so happy with his performance and that he scored,” Ben Youssef told SuperSport TV after the match as quoted by Soccer Laduma.

The coach also highlighted the importance of squad depth, pointing to Frosler’s immediate contribution. “Certainly, he [Frosler] is back and made two assists, so he has shown the importance of all the players in the squad,” he explained.

“We have a big squad, a big team, and all of them are ready to give us what we ask from them. They are all ready to fight for the team. The most important thing is that we’re not reliant on one or two players; we’re a big squad, and everyone can help.”

Ben Youssef noted that the team’s recent success is partly due to the return of several key players from injury, which has increased competition for places.

“I think from the start of the season, we said that the performance was always there,” he added. “We were a little bit unlucky at times, sometimes we missed a lot of chances, and we were unlucky with injuries. Now, the entire squad is ready, and the competition is there for every position.”

“Even today, we missed a lot of chances but still scored four goals. The most important thing for us is that the performance is there, and we are so happy with how the players performed,” Youssef concluded.
