Kaizer Chiefs injury updates: Da Cruz shares latest on players’ fitness

Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz has shared the latest regarding the Glamour Boys’ fitness.

Amakhosi started the campaign without Paseka Mako, Rushine Dortley, Mduduzi Shabalala, Bradley Cross, Kabelo Nkwega, Khanyisa Mayo, and, more recently, Langelihle Phili due to injury.

Dortley and Shabalala were injured last season, but the latter is fully fit and is part of the playing unit. The Glamour Boys have started the Premier Soccer League strongly, collecting eight points from the four outings.

On Sunday, the Soweto giants will be in Dobsonville to play unpredictable Siwelele in the South African top tier. Coach Da Cruz has now updated on the club’s injury concerns amid rumours that Thabiso Monyane has joined Phili in the medical room.

Latest on Amakhosi injuries

“There are two types of injuries. Injuries players had last season, so it takes time for us to recover these players to 100%,” he stated.

“And the injuries that happened this season, our medical staff is doing a very good job, and they are trying to do their best to recover the players as soon as possible.

“But when we have injured players, it shows in our squad so not worried about that,” Da Cruz added.

Phili injury, blessing to Abrahams?

Meanwhile, an eight-week injury sidelining Langelihle Phili could be the opening Faiz Abrahams needs to solidify his place at Kaizer Chiefs, beginning with their Premier Soccer League (PSL) clash against Siwelele on Sunday.

Phili, who had enjoyed a stellar start at Amakhosi since his transfer from Stellenbosch, was ruled out last week with an ankle injury, presenting another attacking dilemma for coach Fernando da Cruz.

The 21-year-old had quickly become a key figure for the team, finding the net against Mamelodi Sundowns and being named Player of the Match in the game against Sekhukhune United.
