Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly decided to increase their recruitment budget ahead of the January transfer window in a bid to boost coach Nasreddine Nabi’s squad.
Chiefs brought in seven players in the off-season although Nabi has stated on numerous occasions that it is still not enough as he is still looking for further reinforcements with a striker and winger among his targets.
Now, Soccer Laduma reports that Head of Scouting and Recruitment Thembela Maliwa will be given a separate budget from the one initially set aside in August to identify the right players to bring in while aligning with coach Nabi.
How are Chiefs preparing for January transfer window?
“Things are changing bit by bit because the head of scouting has the say in the signing of players who he feels will fit into the Kaizer Chiefs style and system of play and that is why the budget is available again,” a source told the outlet.
“You know some of the players he has already identified may not have been part of the coach’s list at the start of the season and that needed a new budget.”
Chiefs were not able to get in some of their targets before the window closed in September due to what was reported as their tight budget with the club said to have set aside R50 million for new players.
Nabi only wants top quality players for Amakhosi
Nabi has started his Chiefs reign in fine fashion, winning three of his four matches in all competitions, but his squad is still far from ideal as he looks to revive the fortunes of the sleeping giant.
He has, however, insisted he will only sign top quality players and is happy to wait if what he wants is not available.
The January transfer window will therefore be a big one for Amakhosi as they look to make reinforcements.
