Kaizer Chiefs’ grave mistake again? ‘Amakhosi ignore it’s not just the tactics’

Recently, Kaizer Chiefs confirmed the arrival of Fernando Da Cruz to coach the team following the exit of Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef.

The duo had taken over earlier in the 2025/26 season from Nasreddine Nabi who was relieved off his duties after just six games into the Premier Soccer League campaign. Despite Amakhosi finishing third on the table, the management felt they needed to make changes.

Da Cruz signed a two-year deal with the Soweto giants. He comes after serving the Royal Morocco Football Federation as the Technical Director.

Despite winning the Botola Pro League title with AS FAR Rabat in the 2022/23 campaign, as well as holding a UEFA Pro License, Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi has explained why the team and supporters need to be patient.

“Let’s give him a chance and see how he does,” Baloyi told iDiski Times.

“The club has appointed him after all. You know, I never like to judge people based on their ethnicity, and I don’t like to put people in a box and say French people are like this. I believe as human beings, we’re all different.

“I’m hoping he has a different approach. But yes, you can’t help but think about what happened before when Chiefs went with French coaches.

“I think what clubs sometimes ignore is that being a coach is not just about what you know technically. It’s not just the tactics.

“It’s about being a human being, the human side is very important and that particularly plays a very big part here in South Africa,” Baloyi concluded.
