Chiefs’ ‘Stevie G’ destroys Pirates

Amakhosi midfielder Steven Mendes, popularly known as ‘Stevie G’, is earning praise after his starring role in their Soweto Derby win over Orlando Pirates in the DStv Diski Challenge on Sunday.

Mendes scored the equalising goal for the Chiefs in their 2-1 win over the Pirates when he latched onto a loose ball and smashed it into the roof of the net.

It was not just about goals for the youngster, who has earned comparisons with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, as he was the engine that drove Chiefs to the win with his great passing in and around the box, finding teammates in tight spaces before crowning it with a goal.
